About Lumecca IPL skin brightening & hyperpigmentation treatment
Discover a superior solution to improve skin complexion, reduce skin irregularities and look years younger. Lumecca is the ultimate solution to rejuvenate your skin. It’s the most powerful intense pulsed light (IPL) to treat pigmented and vascular lesions. After just one use, patients notice significant improvements in the complexion and clarity of the skin. Lumecca operates using photothermolysis, which provides a photofacial through the delivery of a comfortable light treatment. In just 1-3 sessions, Lumecca improves the appearance of:
- Age spots (red/brown pigmentation)
- Vascular lesions such as facial telangiectasias (spider veins) and poikiloderma
- Rosacea (redness)
- Freckles
- Sun damage
Lumecca can be used on all areas of the body. The most common areas of treatment are zones that are regularly exposed to the sun. This often includes the face, neck, legs, hands, and arms.Â

Frequently asked questions
Before your Lumecca procedure, it's essential to apply sunblock daily for at least 3 weeks prior to treatment. Arrive with clean skin, free of lotion and makeup on the area to be treated. Additionally, avoid direct or excessive sun exposure, as well as tanning, for one month before your Lumecca treatment to ensure optimal results and safety.
During the Lumecca treatment, you will experience a bright flash of light, which may feel like a light elastic sensation. After the procedure, it is normal to experience redness and a slight warming of the skin, which usually subsides within an hour. Over the next 24–48 hours, you may notice darkening of pigmented spots. In the following week, these pigmented lesions will flake off, helping to even out your skin tone. If you’ve treated vascular lesions, you may see the vein blanch or change color, which will dissipate within a few days.
Post-treatment, it's crucial to apply sunblock daily for 3 weeks. You may apply moisturizer and makeup if the skin is intact, but avoid picking or peeling off any crusts or lesions.
REMEMBER: Exposure to sunlight after Lumecca treatment can cause the pigmented areas to return. To protect your results, it’s essential to use a broad-spectrum SPF daily and wear hats when out in the sun. While it may not be possible to avoid sun exposure entirely, occasional touch-ups may be necessary for hyperpigmented spots.
An improved skin appearance can be noted after the first session. Multiple sessions provide even better results. Treatment regime depends on the sensitivity of skin damage, skin type, type of treatment (vascular vs sun damage), and energy settings. Expect this session to last an hour. VASCULAR lesions like spider veins and red spots are 3-5 sessions at 3-6 wk intervals. PIGMENTED/AGE SPOT lesios are 1-5 sessions at 3-4 week intervals.
(all values will be based on the recommendation with a consult)
You may begin to notice improvements in sun damage and overall skin complexion just a few days after your first Lumecca IPL Photofacial session. Over time, your skin will continue to appear younger and more radiant, with the most visible results typically appearing after 1–2 weeks. For optimal results, multiple photofacial sessions are recommended. For vascular treatments, such as facial telangiectasias, improvements can be seen within up to 2 weeks.
Most patients experience little to no side effects after a Lumecca IPL Photofacial, and any skin reactions typically resolve within a few hours. However, patients may experience increased sensitivity to sunlight immediately following treatment. It is recommended to avoid direct sunlight and tanning during this time. Additionally, you may notice a light crust forming over pigmented lesions, which will flake off after 7–10 days. For vascular treatments, darkening of blood vessels may occur due to coagulation and vasoconstriction, with the vessels eventually collapsing and disappearing.
