Lumecca FAQ
What steps must be taken before the Lumecca procedure?
Sunblock for 3 weeks prior. Arrive with clean skin, no lotion, and makeup on the skin to be treated. Avoid direct, excessive sun exposure or tanning one month prior to treatment.
What should I expect during and after Lumecca?
During treatment there will be a bright flash of light from the Lumecca that feels like a light elastic sensation. Redness and a slight warming of the skin are normal after treatment and usually subsides within an hour. Over the next 24-48 hours you may see a darkening of pigmented spots; in the week afterwards the pigmented lesions flake off, leading to an evening out of skin tone. After treating vascular lesions you may see the vein blanch and disappear of a color change in the vessel which dissipates after a few days. Sunblock for 3 weeks post. May apply moisturizer and makeup if the skin is intact. DO NOT PICK OR PEEL OFF CRUSTS OR LESIONS.
REMEMBER: If you expose the treated skin to the sunlight after treatment, the pigmented areas CAN COME BACK! It is extremely important to use a broad spectrum SPF daily and wear hats while out in the sun to protect your treatment. We realize that it is nearly impossible to avoid all sun all of the time, so intermittent touch-ups of hyperpigmented spots may be needed.
How many sessions are required for best results?
An improved skin appearance can be noted after the first session. Multiple sessions provide even better results. Treatment regime depends on the sensitivity of skin damage, skin type, type of treatment (vascular vs sun damage), and energy settings. Expect this session to last an hour. VASCULAR lesions like spider veins and red spots are 3-5 sessions at 3-6 wk intervals. PIGMENTED/AGE SPOT lesios are 1-5 sessions at 3-4 week intervals.
(all values will be based on the recommendation with a consult)
How quickly will I see skin improvement?
Sun damage and skin complexion results can be seen a few days after the first session. The skin will continue to look younger and more brilliant over time with most visible results after 1-2 weeks. Having multiple photofacial sessions will improve the final result. For vascular treatments such as facial telangiectasias, results can be seen in up to 2 weeks.
Are there any side effects?
Most patients do not experience any side effects and any skin reaction usually resolves within a few hours. Patients may find they are sensitive to sunlight immediately after treatment. It is recommended to avoid direct sunlight and tanning.
You may have a light crust of pigmented lesions that will flake off after 7-10 days. Darkening of blood vessels as a result of coagulation and vasoconstriction, vessels collapse and disappear.
