Frequently Asked Questions
With gentle pressure to manipulate the muscles, soft tissues and joints, OMT helps restore structural imbalance, and improve nerve and blood circulation which can help your body function better.
OMT can treat a variety of conditions, and people of all ages—from infants to seniors—can benefit from it. Examples include:
Pregnant women: OMT can improve sleep quality, alleviate back and pelvic pain, and address posture-related discomfort.
Infants: OMT may help relieve colic, feeding difficulties, and other conditions.
Children and adults: People of all ages may use OMT to address headaches, sinus issues, and chronic pain.
Individuals with back pain: OMT is effective for alleviating lower back pain and improving mobility.
Minor injuries: OMT can support recovery from sprains, strains, and sports-related injuries.
The number of OMT sessions required varies on the condition being treated and your body’s response to treatment. Some individuals may experience relief after one session, while others might benefit from a series of treatments over time. Your DO will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan.
During an OMT session, your osteopathic physician will assess your posture, flexibility, and mobility. They will use their hands to apply gentle techniques such as stretching, pressure, or resistance to address imbalances. Sessions typically last 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the treatment plan.
